BABY GASELLE
The opening song is actually one of my favourite from the record. I remember I wrote the riff and the chorus and I was f*cking stoked. I wanted the lyrics to be a bit dark and shady and be a bit like “Con air”. You don’t know what it is about and you really don’t to know.
PLAYGROUND KIDS
Playground Kids took a lot of time to get right. We tried almost 10 different choruses on this one but we liked the main riff so that one kind off stuck with us. When we got to pre production with our producer Bas van Wageningen, we got a fresh view on it and he made sure every bit came together.
HEARTS
This song has the same chords for 80% of the song, which it makes it very easy to play. It’s one of our softer songs but I personally like it. Hearts is very melodramatic, which I think is the other side of SSDR.
SOLDIERS OF LOVE
We recorded SOL two times before this one. It always stuck with us and live it works really well. My favourite part of the song is the solo from Laszlo along with the organ of Camiel.
START A WAR
Start a War is a result of a demo I made during the period we were in the studio. We all liked that demo so much we didn’t want to save it up for the next record and we decided to make it into a song and recorded it a few weeks later. I really like to do this one live because we can play it ery sleazy.
HOLD THE LINE
This song was our very first single. We never thought this would be our single but in hindsight it makes sense. I think it’s one of the shortest songs of the record, which makes it very suitable for a first single.
EYE OF THE STORM
Also one of my favourite songs from this record. I think the ending is very nice mixed and the vibe on the track is pretty cool. I think we are going to play this one for a long time.
PSILO
I was the only one who believed this one would make the record. Every other person from the band hated it but I pushed it through until everybody was convinced. HAHAHA I manipulated them all!
THE RIPPER
We always like to start this one of live with a jam. I think this is one of our deeper tracks. Mostly because of the change from a straight down stroke rhythm to a shuffle.
I HATE ROCK & ROLL
This is actualy the oldest one of the record. I really like it because to me it sounds a bit mercyless, but in a good way.
