Canadian experimental guitarists Aidan Baker (also of Nadja) & Eric Quach (aka Thisquietarmy) formed HYPNODRONE ENSEMBLE in Berlin, Germany in 2014 to explore, with the accompaniment of multiple drummers, drones and polyrhythms. Members of the project regularly rotate, but recently participating drummers include Sara Neidorf (also of Aptera, Mellowdeath), Jérémie Mortier (also of Glow Pools), and Angela Martinez Muñoz (also of Tavare, nunofyrbeeswax).
The project creates music that combines atmospheric, shoegazer-y textures with motorik, propulsive beats for immersive, psychedelic performances. Their live, self-titled debut came out in 2014 on Consouling Sounds, in conjunction with an appearance at Incubate Festival in Tilburg, NL, followed by their studio-recorded full-length, The Shape of Space, the following year. Plays Orchestral Favourites, recorded as an expanded 9-piece ensemble, came out in 2018, followed by Gets Polyamorous in 2020, both on Wolves & Vibrancy. The group has performed and toured extensively in Europe, including appearances at such festivals as Borsig Ampfest, Psych In Bloom, Beautés Soniques, and supporting such bands as Zu, MoE, and Sun Worship.
The group’s latest release is „The Problem Is In The Sender – Do Not Tamper With The Receiver“, released spring 2024 by Wolves & Vibrancy Records (LP), WV Sorcerer (CD), Cruel Nature Recordings (CS), and Katuktu Collective (CS), with additional contributions from vocalist Lane Shi Otayonii, bassist Gareth Sweeney (also of Caudal), and drummer Fiona McKenzie (also of Halma).

GLOW POOLS are a new and emerging entity who work with allowing sounds to gradually unfurl and take their form, letting the intervals exhale. They aim to focus the attention that exists within slowness, within the moment when a note hangs in the air and shimmers. Glow Pools are four humans moving molecules in a room somewhere outside the Ringbahn, and three circles on the wall.
