Besagtes Stinson Beach liegt im Norden Kaliforniens, und schon eine fixe Google-Bildersuche vermittelt einen Eindruck davon, wie inspirierend sich die Landschaft auf die Arbeiten an The Waterfall ausgewirkt haben muss, das siebte Studioalbum von MY MORNING JACKET. Wobei Studio in diesem Fall für das Panoramic House Studio steht, das seinen Namen nicht von ungefähr trägt. Da kann man schon mal philosophisch werden.
I feel like it’s a weird turning point for the universe. There’s so much change going on and I feel like, for me, that one chapter has ended. And if you’re looking at a book, there’s a hand flipping the page up and it’s in between the chapter you just finished and the one that’s getting ready to start. Wer nach all dem ahnt, die Band um Sänger und Songwriter JIM JAMES klinge auf The Waterfall mehr denn je nach den FLAMING LIPS, der ahnt ganz recht: wasserfallgigantische Melodien, plüschig ausstaffiert und schamlos überproduziert, die Einlösung des mit der vorab ausgekoppelten Single „Big Decisions“ gegebenen Versprechens auf ein Psych-Pop-Album, das man zwischen Platten von GRANDADDY und den BEACH BOYS hören und sich bestens aufgehoben fühlen kann. Man kann nur hoffen, dass sich auch auf den nächsten Seiten in James‘ Buch weitere Ideen für so reiche, bereichernde Musik finden.
