Dieser Tage erscheint ein von BLOC PARTY-Sänger KELE OKEREKE für die „Tapes“-Reihe zusammengestellter Sampler. Bevor wir zu den exklusiven Kommentare von KELE zu den Songs von Bloc Party Tapes – Mixed By Kele – kommen, aber noch ein besonderer Hinweis an unsere Berliner Leser:
Am Donnerstag, den 7. November ab 23 Uhr steigt im Postbahnhof die große Release-Party zum Sampler, bei der KELE OKEREKE höchstpersönlich an den Decks stehen wird! Unterstützung bekommt er dabei von FUNKINEVEN, JUNIOR BOYS und BARON CASTLE.
So, nun aber: KELE, im Original und gänzlich ungebügelt…

the first time i heard this track i was a post-rock club in north london and i had to ask the DJ what the track was. it just felt so blissful and hypnotic, like being wrapped in a duvet.
TWEAK / TONY ALLEN – LEROY
tony allen is the drummer from fela kuti’s africa 70 band. one of the originators of the „afrobeat“ sound and probably the greatest drummer in the world. this track is a collaboration with tony allen and the DJ Tweak.
WILEY – NUMBERS IN ACTION (STICKY REMIX)
Eski boy’s 2011 breakthrough track gets a rework by the master of garage himself, sticky. i love the video of this track. its playful and fun. wiley is a star.
WOOKIE FEAT. LAIN – BATTLE
The first garage banger that i really remember have a profound effect on me. what struck me first was the distinctive vocal phrasing and Lain Gray’s sweet soulful vocal.
FRENCH FRIES – SPACE ALARM
I heard this track for the first time in a club in paris and whole place went berserk. it just levels everything else out there on the dance floor.
BLOC PARTY – OBSCENE (KELE OKEREKE REMIX)
I had fun with this remix. i just wanted something up tempo with an acid house feel and i notice now whenever i play it out people just go crazy.
DOUBLE 99 – RIP GROOVE
classic dance track from the early 90’s. still fills dance floors now.
FELA ANIULAPO KUTI & AFRIKA 70 – SHUFFERING & SHMILING
great groove based track from fela. a call to arms in which he even speaks in tongues. i have always loved the eyptian themed artwork for this record.
TORSKE – JEG VIL VÆRE SØPPELMANN
lovely percussion.
Larry Heard presents Mr. White – The Sun Can’t Compare (Long Version)
For this rework Heard strips back the original track and lets it pump along for 8minutes. its utterly emotional mesmerising vocal house music at its finest.
CAJMERE – PERCOLATOR (JAMIE JONES VAULT MIX)
jamie jones is a genius. this rework on the cajmere track is so rich and effortless. from the creepy synth work to the dub infused breakdowns. His remixers are always so rich.
JUNIOR BOYS – LIKE A CHILD (CARL CRAIG REMIX)
For this remix Carl relies on the hypnotic arpeggio synth line. The track has a slow build but the pay off is worth it.
VAGHE STELLE – THE PLATFORM (SAMOYED REMIX)
blessed out remix of Vaghe Stelle. it feels like the party is coming to an end.
JACQUES GREENE – THE LOOK (KORELESS REMIX)
two of my favourite producers of the moment come together for a titanic love in. a perfect way to end the mix.
