Heute erscheint mit Triple Seven das Debütalbum der Indie-Grunge-Combo WISHY um KEVIN KRAUTER und NINA PITCHKITES. Hier kommentieren die beiden die zehn neuen Tracks …
SICK SWEET
This song is about wanting something or someone despite doubts or misgivings, and laying it all on the line to see it through. I was inspired by an Oasis interview asking Liam Gallagher what his lyrics are generally about and he says something to the effect of “Just living life” and “Just going for it.” That’s the energy I put into this song. – Kevin
TRIPLE SEVEN
I wrote “Triple Seven“ with our friend Steve Marino after he approached me with the guitar parts for the song and asked if I wanted to write a melody and lyrics over them. I pulled a lot of initial inspiration from The Sundays for the sound and direction. Uncertainty, intuition, and personal growth are central lyrical themes— hence the angel number 777— which have everything to do with romantic relationships and how we act within them. – Nina
PERSUASION
This song is about the slightly frantic feeling of being held captive by the promises and expectations that often accompany the love and affection of another. – Kevin
GAME
This one is about “playing the game” of interpersonal relationships, be it romantic or platonic. The lines are often quite blurry and the goalposts are constantly shifting. Musically, I really wanted it to sound reminiscent of an anime intro song. – Kevin
LOVE ON THE OUTSIDE
This song is about that exciting yet frustrating early phase of a romance when there is uncertainty about where things will go. The scales could tip in either direction and often patience starts to wear thin. Sometimes you just wanna grab someone by the shoulders and be like “Okay, what’s up for real!” It was fun to bring that kind of melodramatic energy into a song. – Kevin
LITTLE WHILE
I wrote this song after I abruptly left Philadelphia where I had been living for almost two years. It was unexpected and came with a lot of varying emotions after the end of my long-term relationship. Most of the lyrics are based upon dreams I had during that time which left me feeling uncertain about the future and unsure about feelings towards my ex. It also touches on themes of feeling overwhelmed by people wanting your time and attention when you feel like you have nothing left to give. – Nina
BUSTED
This song is about the painful clarity that accompanies the come down off of substances or intense experiences one might indulge in. – Kevin
JUST LIKE SUNDAY
It’s mostly a love song about yearning and bending to the will of someone you care about while also letting go of your inhibitions. When we first were writing and demoing out the song, we likened this track to the cadence of a Goo Goo Dolls song, which meant that the working title was subsequently called “What If Goo Goo.” – Nina
HONEY
The meaning behind this song is a bit more nebulous than the others. It was mostly an exercise in writing from a more stream-of-consciousness approach. If I had to ascribe a specific theme to it, I would say it’s mostly about pleasure and the universal pursuit of it. – Kevin
SPIT
This one is a classic heartbreak song. More specifically, it’s about the desperate search for some kind of explanation or feeling of closure to ease the pain of a sudden break-up or at the very least make sense of it all. More often than not, this proves to be a rather fruitless endeavor. – Kevin
