San Francisco band HOT FLASH HEAT WAVE rose to prominence in the Bay Area music scene in 2015 with the release of their ‚Gutter Girl‘ music video from their debut album „Neapolitan“, with its accompanying video eventually trending on Reddit. Their versatile sound, at times reminiscent of psychedelia, dream pop, and post-punk, demonstrates a dynamic range of songwriting prowess centered around consistently infectious, sun-soaked melodies and guitar hooks.
HFHW formed in Davis, California as a noise collaboration between Adam Abildgaard and Nick Duffy in 2010, adding Ted Davis in the following years amidst a series of lineup changes. Renouncing the traditional front-manned format of most contemporary bands, the members instead each contribute songs and share the lead.
Continuing their habit of self-reinvention, the band has generated growing excitement with a series of ambitious new singles from their forthcoming EP „Mood Ring“, set to release early 2019 on Empire. The new material teases a dreamier, more psychedelic and indulgent sound, and has landed the group spots on playlists like Pollen, Bedroom Pop, New Music Friday, and All New Indie. Their latest single ‘Sky So Blue’, described as “a cloud-wandering, escapist pop epic, that isn’t afraid of sounding like the aural equivalent of sticking your head into a candy floss maker” (God Is In The TV Zine, UK) made its way to the Hot Tracks list on the front page of Apple Music. 2019 promises to be an exciting year for the band, as they embark on their first headline runs around the USA and Europe.

BLACK PALMS: Psychedelic-Rock aus Berlin
„She´s getting on the road / mrs. mojo risin“, ertönt es zum Auftakt des Refrains der aktuellen Singleauskopplung der Berliner Psychedelic-Rock Band BLACK PALMS. Und weiter: „She´s a LSDCleopatra / the women you haven´t met so far“. Nach ihrer Debütsingle „9/4“ haben Black Palms ein weiteres Musikvideo zu ihrer zweiten Songauskopplung „LSD-Cleopatra“ veröffentlicht. Als Recording-Equipment fungierten, wie bei ihrem ersten Song auch, dabei ausschließlich Smartphones. Für „LSD-Cleopatra“ hat Gitarrist Jan Sönnichsen ein Musikvideo collagiert, das die musikalisch geschaffene Atmosphäre des Songs auf visueller Ebene weiterträgt.
SONGS AUSSCHLIESSLICH MIT SMARTPHONES PRODUZIERT
Black Palms ist ein Psychedelic-/Garage Rock-Projekt aus Berlin, das von Fabian Peters (Gitarre/Bass/Gesang) gegründet wurde. Zusammen mit Jan Sönnichsen (Gitarre/Gesang) und Paul Ernst (Bass) bilden die drei ein Trio, das die musikalischen Ideen hinter dem Projekt verkörpert und mit teilweise wechselnden Live-Musikern auf die Bühne bringt. Zur aktuellen Besetzung zählt zudem Danny We (Drums). Sowohl sämtliche Instrumentalspuren als auch die Gesänge für die beiden bisher veröffentlichten Singles „9/4“ und „LSD-Cleopatra haben Black Palms darüber hinaus ausschließlich mit Smartphones aufgenommen und anschließend am Computer für das Mixing & Mastering arrangiert. Die Musik transportiert dabei einen rohen, melodischen Sound und liefert Freiraum für die Instrumente.
