THE SOFT HILLS tauften Garrett Hobba, Brittan Drake, Randall Skrasek und Brett Massa aus Seattle, USA, ihre musikalische Abenteuerreise. Die vier Musiker teilen das Vergnügen an Experimenten und an Harmonik und greifen dabei neben hörbaren musikalischen Einflüssen (von Folk über Psychedelic bis Ambient, man kann sowohl Einflüsse von Neil Young, Sigur Rós sowie Grizzly Bear vernehmen) auch gerne auf Literarisches zurück oder versuchen gar Empfindungen aus Träumen und Visionen einzubauen. Vielleicht liegt es genau daran, dass man sich beim Hören von The Soft Hills‘ Musik streckenweise vorkommt als würde man durch magische Landschaften wandern, in denen Herden durch samtweiche Felder ziehen, während mystische, fabelwesen-gleiche Vögel unter den Wolken ihre Kreise ziehen? Sicher ist jedoch, dass die gleichermaßen ausgeprägte Liebe zur Melodie und zu dem klanglichen Experiment die Kompositionen dieser Band anleitet. Die Live-Umsetzung dieser Symbiose hat konsequenterweise sowohl für die Ohren als auch für die Augen etwas zu bieten.
Die Band setzt hierbei auf eine Vermischung von Visual-Arts und Live-Bildern. In Verbindung mit den Reverb-Gitarren, Synthie-Klängen und Harmonie-Gesängen geben diese Visuals der Show einen ganz eigenen Reiz. Und das Publikum in den USA scheint begeistert zu sein, denn die Band tourt in immer größeren Venues durchs Land. The Soft Hills sind eben wundersam und wunderschön. MYSTICAL COMMUNICATION SERVICE
Compelled by a lack of new sounds and music made outside of the box, MYSTICAL COMMUNICATION SERVICE is the brainchild of Yanez Di Mompracem (The Tigers of Mompracem/ Dirty & The Girlscouts). What started out as a solo project and chance for the young artist to hone his musical talents, turned organically into an amalgamation of influences and contributions by friends and fellow band mates, as well as family. Now joined by his brother Gerald Pasqualin (The Pinkrays/ The Purcells) on drums, band mate Yair Karelic (Dirty & The Girlscouts/ Propano) on guitar, and partner Upneet Neetu Bains Pasqualin on backing vocals and percussion, MCS veers away from most of the band members‘ experience on the European garage/punk scene and is a refreshing venture into a world of heartfelt blues, psychedelic rhythms and soaring guitars.
There is music beyond the 3.30 minute pop song. Back in the 1970s numerous artists’ careers were built on amazing performances – radio format was not the standard or the rule but predominantly the exception. Mystical Communication Service is taking up this long lost thread again: It is the sound of Captain Beefheart, Soft Machine and Screamin’ Jay Hawkins again – but with a contemporary edge. MCS has already thrilled Berlin listeners at many shows including: 8mm Bar, Bassy Cowboy Club, N.B.I., as well as King Kong Club.
The band also recently opened for the widely acclaimed “Dum Dum Girls” at Festsaal Kreuzberg. Yanez, Gerald and Yair have also successfully begun to perform MCS’s music as a three piece on smaller club stages. It is the essence of the band in an intimate format – that’s why the trio calls it’s line-up “Intimo”. Mystical Communication Service has recorded a debut album which is mastered and ready for release. The band has already started negotiations with record labels and plans the release of it’s debut for early spring.

Es sind doch häufig die Zufälle im Leben, die etwas Ungewöhnliches, Neues oder Aufregendes anstoßen: Der New Yorker Songschreiber NOAM WEINSTEIN (Nachfahre aus Osteuropa stammender jüdischer Einwanderer) lernte den Produzenten Mike Viola (Candy Butchers, Dan Bern, Rachael Yamagata) in einem Aufzug in New York kennen. Die Fahrt muss über einige Stockwerke gegangen sein, am Ende tauschten die beiden jedenfalls Telefonnummern aus.
Inzwischen hat Viola Weinsteins sechstes Album “Clocked” produziert, ein toller Fight über 12 Runden. In der Ecke von Weinstein stand im Übrigen eine sehr erfahrene Mannschaft: Larry Goldings (Ray Charles, James Taylor, De La Soul), Sebastian Steinberg (Soul Coughing, Neil Finn, Fiona Apple) und Steven Nistor (Danger Mouse, Daniel Lanois, Alison Krauss) und fechelten Weinstein Luft zu.
Mit “Clocked” legt Weinstein ein famoses Album vor, das mit klassischer Songwriter-Kunst brilliert. Hintersinnige Balladen (“Kill Me Again”), rotzige Stomper (“Hollywood”) und Jingle-Jangle-Pop (“Birthday”) stellt Weinstein locker nebeneinander. Noams Stimme belebt die Songs und haucht ihnen Leben ein, ob geflüstert, gehaucht oder mit Wucht rausgeschleudert.
