SOFIA HÄRDIG

SOFIA HÄRDIG kommt aus Schweden und galt lange als „Sweden’s best-kept secret“, aber sie macht keine liebliche Popmusik. Ihre Musik ist alles andere als gefällig, sondern düster und experimentell. Das Album „The Norm of The Locked Room“ entstand über einen Zeitraum von zwei Jahren in Malmö, Stockholm und Berlin. Zeitweise erinnern die Songs an Krautrock oder einmal ganz kurz an Anne Clark. Sofia Härdig über ihre musikalischen Einflüsse: “I am a big Suicide fan.. and in general I like a lot of music from the past.. Einstürzende Neubauten, Birthday Party, The Ex, This Heat, Faust, Can, Nick Cave…”

Ihre Karriere begann, als sie im Frühling 2003 nach New York zog und mit ihrer Band Sofia Härdig and The Needles an legendären Orten wie CBGB’s, The Kitchen und Arlene’s Grocery spielte. In der Folgezeit spielte sie in mehreren erfolgreichen Projekten, u.a. 303, Trio Switzerland und The Happiest Girl In The World. Sie wurde als Electronica Queen bejubelt und zum Aushängeschild für die experimentelle Musikszene. Sie arbeitete mit Musikern von The Hellacopters (swe), Bob Hund (swe), Free Kitten (us), Bordoms (jap), OOIOO (jap) and The Sunburned Hand Of The Man (US).

Nach ihrer rockigen Phase mit The Needles begann Sofia, allein mit Synthesizern, Electronics und Geräuschen zu experimentieren. 2006 veröffentlichte sie das starke Solo Album „The Need To Destroy“, bestehend aus Electronica, Dance Beats, fragmentierten Gitarren und bedrohlichen Industrial Sounds. Die Reaktionen auf das Album waren brillant und Sofia bekam Airplay in Schweden und in den USA. Sie erhielt verschiedene Stipendien und pendelt zwischen Malmö, Stockkolm und Berlin. Neben ihrer eigenen Musik macht sie Musik für Tanz-Performances, Filme und Kunstprojekte.

Für ihr fünftes Album “THE NORM OF THE LOCKED ROOM” loopt und schneidet sie traditionelle Instrumente so, wie sie vorher Elektronik benutzt hat. Sophia Härdig über den Arbeitsprozess: “I worked very intensive on my own, in my locked room. Recording and playing all instruments. Then I brought in some fellow musicians that improvised over my recordings. I used this material for cutting the recordings into small loops, Building new loops and creating it like I giant puzzle. Aka breaking the recordings apart to minimal bits and rebuilding them, again.”

Sie trennt die einzelnen Spuren voneinander, um sie in monatelanger Kleinarbeit wieder in einem neuen Kontext zusammenzusetzen. Der Sound klingt düster und hypnotisch. Sie mixt und produziert, spielt Gitarre, Bass, Keyboard, Percussion, Schlagzeug und benutzt sogar ihre Stimme wie ein Instrument. Das Album featuret Musiker wie John Essing (bob hund), Per Svensson (Freddie Wadling) und James Welburn.

Sofia selbst sagt über ihre Musik: „For me it’s beautiful with that which is not perfect, in the dilapidated, broken and in the mistakes I see beauty.“

HANNA & KERTTU

It is not easy to describe what HANNA & KERTTU is like or where they came from. Musically, born somewhere between Finland and Norway, located in Berlin, at home in a world of colours. It might be two little kids in a dark scary forest, getting lost and playing soothing music in order to find the way out. Or some grown ups watching the fairytale in our reality…

When the project started the female members decided to call it Hanna & Kerttu. The finnish name is based on the Grimm brothers‘ fairy tale Hansel and Gretel and means Hanna & Gretel. Though the cast changed, the name remained. Their first EP was recorded at Kaikustudios Berlin, produced by Jonas Verwijnen (LCMDF/DENA/Whitest Boy Alive…) and released in 2012.
